G Series Anamorphic Prime Lenses
Introduced in 2007, the G series lenses were built largely with the convenience of the C series and the advancements of optical technology of the Primo AL series in mind. The G series lenses employ the most advanced anti-flare coating technology, proprietary custom made spherical and cylindrical optics, and mechanical packaging that is consistent from focal length to focal length.
A strong point of the G series lenses is the careful and precise control of the squeeze ratio among lenses and focal lengths. Monitoring and controlling this attribute increases the consistency in photography between lenses never seen before in anamorphic lenses. The proprietary spherical components are individually matched to their corresponding cylindrical set which allows for a degree of increased optical performance and manufacturing that has not been achieved before. Mechanically, these lenses are very lightweight and very familiar to the camera assistant.
Optically, these lenses have a look that is consistent with the rest of the Panavision anamorphic lenses and they have become an optical tool that has convinced many customers into using anamorphic lenses for the first time. The primary optical features of the G series lenses are high contrast, high resolution images, well balanced aberration control, excellent glare resistance, tightly controlled anamorphic squeeze ratio, low maintenance cylindrical layout and minimal breathing. The G series lens set represents the latest anamorphic lens technology and were developed in part because of customer requests.
The current set of G series anamorphic lenses includes a 25mm, 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 75mm, and 100mm, with more focal lengths to be added in the future. These lenses have a typical speed of T2.6 with close focus under 3 feet. All the lenses in the set have a common front diameter of 4.440 inches, which is the same as our spherical Primo primes. Lens changes won’t required finding a new rubber donut or bellows for the matte box. They are similar in size and weight of the the spherical Primo primes. The focus and T-stop scales are engraved on both sides of the lens, and focus and T-stop gears are in the standard Panavision locations, making these lenses ideal for the camera assistant to work with.
Performance and size make these lenses comparable to Panavision E series anamorphic primes, but in a lightweight, compact format similar to the C series primes.
