Systems Engineer, Digital Workflow Support - Woodland Hills, CA

The Systems Engineer, Digital Workflow position is responsible for providing technical guidance and support to internal personnel and external customers.  Must have a deep understanding and passion for all aspects of video engineering including digital camera setup and maintenance, signal QC, and all phases of production workflow including acquisition, on-set grading, data management, dailies generation and archiving, as well as the ability to effectively and diplomatically resolve issues. Must have extensive knowledge of Video Transmitters, internet streaming process and devices. Must be equipped to provide hardware and software support during any digital-asset related issues that may arise during post-production.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Consulting during pre-production with Panavision Marketing staff, Camera Department and relevant production personnel, to gather specific information about project requirements so that recommendations can be made and solutions presented for an effective production and workflow process from set to post, 
•    1st line engineering support during camera prep, and once a production has begun shooting. Must respond quickly to various problems, including camera recording errors, file transcoding issues and computer hardware or software failures. Addressing these issues may involve traveling to the set or a post facility, and will also require a good working relationship with vendors who provide related 3rd party hardware and software solutions to our customers, either through Panavision or directly.   
•    Researching, evaluating and documenting relevant technology/solutions.
•    Maintain awareness of competing technology and services.  Recommend changes to improve competitive strategy.
•    Actively gather and disseminate customer feedback regarding our products or services. 
•    Contribute to formal and informal Panavision Training programs. 
•    Collaborate with other Panavision staff and Upper Management to help innovate new products and solutions. 
•    Collaborate with Operations in maintaining the PV Woodland Hills digital screening system.
•    Responsible for producing technical documentation and system drawings.

    
Skills/Experience Required:

•    Expert knowledge of Video Engineering; hardware and applications 
•    Expert Knowledge of test equipment.  
•    Extensive knowledge of computer hardware software, IT networking and IT applications.  
•    Good working knowledge of on-set workflow practices, hardware and software
•    Good working knowledge of Post Production workflows and Post Production departmental structure
•    Practical knowledge of professional editing software
•    Practical knowledge of professional color grading software   
•    Extensive knowledge of current digital cinema cameras; setup, capabilities and support.
•    Expert knowledge of professional video codecs and file types, both camera native and deliverables
•    Working knowledge of digital monitoring and standards. Projection systems knowledge a plus. 
•    Experience with media streaming and cloud based hosting platforms.  
•    General knowledge of all Panavision digital offerings. 
•    General understanding of basic optical and photographic principles
•    Excellent knowledge of electronics and the ability to read schematics.  
•    Personable and works effectively as part of a team
•    Able to learn and apply new concepts quickly   
•    Ability to work well with, and express ideas to both technical, and non-technical personnel and external customers.
•    Highly self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
•    Able to trouble shoot, and solve problems creatively
•    Ability to stay calm, and work effectively in stressful situations 
•    Well organized with excellent written and oral communication skills
•    Flexible with changing working hours and willing to adapt on short notice to meet business needs and the needs of the customer
•    Ability to travel on short notice 
•    Must have a reliable vehicle, valid California driver’s licenses, and the ability to drive to production locations in, and around the Los Angeles area

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Prompt and regular attendance is required, employees are expected to begin work at the start of their scheduled shift and to complete their assigned work shift according to the responsibilities of their position.

This position works standard business hours, but may require long hours and some weekend work.

Travel:

Some out-of-state/country and overnight travel may be expected.
